Double Your Options, Double Your Fun
It was only a few short weeks ago that we were extolling the virtues of seemingly the last generation of BMW’s traditional naturally-aspirated inline 6 cylinder engine. Yes, the N52 featured in the E9X 328i has finally been put out to pasture for a more modern method of motivation in the current F30 generation. Although we, and many of you, will miss the simple and reliable workhorse moving forward, it does seems that we will be doing that moving a good bit faster now.
Quick, count how many cliches can we fit into this next sequence: all good things must come to an end; every end is a new beginning; a fuel efficient, direct-injected turbocharged motor makes the heart grow fonder…All proverbs that ring true, particularly when we realized that the new F30 328i platform afforded us the opportunity to create a pretty kick-ass exhaust for the new BMW N20.
We have heard the polite, but constant critiques and cries from the masses regarding our lack of offerings for the F30 3-series, both 328i and 335i. The two models provide an immense opportunity to build upon, and we have every intention of doing so. However, we did not become a leader in the community overnight. We know that our fans and customers demand the absolute best quality and performance from our software and hardware, and we aren’t in the business of falling short of those expectations. We are extremely hard on ourselves, and employ extensive R&D before we release anything to the market. Almost anyone can fabricate up some piping, toss it on the rear of a car, mark up the price, and propose it as the “first,” or “latest and greatest.”
Our F30 rear muffler has been in development, in one iteration or another, for almost 6 months. The resuls were well worth the wait however.
The Active Autowerke F30 rear exhaust delivers everything we know you want. Weight savings, a sophisticated yet aggressive tone, eye-catching style, and – most importantly – measurable horsepower gains. Available with either a 140mm diameter single oval outlet, or dual 80mm adjustable exhaust tips, the high polish finish is a noticeable upgrade over the looks of the factory muffler.
As for the sound…Well, check out some user-uploaded reviews and video over on F30post.com. This thing turns your 328i into a finely tailored suit on James Bond…just under the composed exterior, is a hint of aggression that will make that C250 Benz think twice before engaging.
Finally, the real meat and potatoes will always be the horsepower numbers. On the in-house Active Autowerke Mustang dyno, our otherwise 100% stock 2013 328i test mule spun the rollers to the tune of an extra 9 RWHP, and 13 LB-FT of torque…from “just” a quality muffler upgrade. Turbos love to exhale, and we are very anxious to continue to unearth just how much extra power is hiding in the stock exhaust system. Nearly 10 extra ponies is a difference you will feel instantly, with the potential for more, obvious.
Active Autowerke has been a leader and innovator for over 30 years, and while BMW’s models and engines may change, our reputation and dedication will not, no matter how long it takes us to produce the best product we can. You know what they say after all – patience is a virtue…and if you play with power, the competition will get burned.
