When painting a masterpiece, every individual brush stroke requires total concentration. Each stroke has a purpose and meaning, and is orchestrated precisely, culminating in an end result that is nothing short of extraordinary. Careful consideration goes into the steps we take to distribute our products. One false move and our precious cargo can become damaged leaving both us – and more importantly, you – dissatisfied. A car, particularly a BMW, can only function at its peak performance with fully-functioning, undamaged parts. So, when considering how best to ship our products to our customers, we chose none other than FOAMplus® by STOROpack.
We are continuously innovating and improving all aspects of our business, so once we saw the FOAMplus® material at work, we knew we had to have it. The FOAMplus® material can actually protect products weighing up to 100lbs! Therefore, when you make your next order, don’t be surprised to encounter this new material encapsulating your precious Active Autowerke pieces. Rather than pulling out a mound of wrinkled brown paper, you’ll be greeted by a perfectly molded foam casing.
Now, we’re going to give you the break down on how this all works, and although it may sound ordinary, it’s anything but! It also takes a lot of skill and practice, so keep in mind that we are working a little harder to make your shipping experience as pleasant as possible. Fortunately, we were lucky enough to have STOROpack’s FOAMplus® Specialist Devin Coit, and Protective Packaging Specialist Erin Lynn come down from Atlanta, Georgia to show us the ropes.
We start with the appropriately-sized box (pretty obvious), and line it with the FOAMplus® film, which is an anti-static plastic material. Next, we grab the nozzle to the FOAMplus® machine, and pull the trigger. This may sound simple enough, but if you attempt it on your own, don’t be surprised if hot polyurethane comes shooting back at your face…It is important to point the nozzle at an angle when dispensing the FOAMplus® material, since the pressure of the injection can create a splash effect.
The great thing about FOAMplus® material, is that only a small amount is needed in order to create an effective and protective mold. As you can see in the picture, it rises – and quickly! We have just seconds to fold the plastic on top of it, spread the material out, and place the product on top of the plastic to create a mold before the material dries. You can probably decipher for yourself now that the same process happens for the top mold of the product.
Last but not least, for all you tree hugging hippies out there, the FOAMplus® material is not harmful to the environment, and can be recycled! It is made out of polyurethane, and produced without chloroflourocarbons, or hydrochloroflourocarbons. The material can be reused for multiple shipments, and it is part of the general waste stream.
